Carlos Dominguez, Technical Artist - 07/06/06

Hola! My name is Carlos Dominguez and I am a Technical Artist at High Moon Studios. Like my title implies, I work with both the technical and art side of game development. In simple words, I work on technical solutions such as scripts (programming) to help the artists create and place their work in the game. I get to play with a lot of programs like Maya, Max and Unreal and figure out how they work. It is fascinating to work with designers, character and environment modelers, animators, and the cinematics team.

A typical day is far from "typical". In the morning, I research the software I need to work on such as Maya. I dig through documentation, the internet and my co-workers and test scripts or techniques that will help me with my tasks. Then I am off to a half hour of Scrum meetings (you can check out the Scrum video on the Downloads section). After that, I may meet with artists and help them with questions or problems. When noon comes, a bunch of us from the studio go out to enjoy the sun and play some ULTIMATE FRISBEE. Frisbee may sound boring, but that is only if you missed the ULTIMATE part. Then a shower and back to my desk to tackle a new crazy idea we want to put in the game. When the work is done, and before going home, we hit a couple of games of Counter Strike, Call of Duty, or World of Warcraft.

I have found my dream job here at HMS. The talented people I get to work with every day, the tasks I have to accomplish, and the HMS building I get to work in; it all makes for an amazing and creative environment that inspires me and excites me every morning to come to work. All I have to say is GFFF: Games, Frisbee and Free Food. Nothing compares.

Chao,

Carlos Dominguez
